Play Up

Play Up is the music project for those young musicians who have already attained an intermediate or higher level with their chosen instruments. We create spaces where young people can meet, jam, hook up with like-minded musicians, form bands, learn to play covers, compose their own music and rehearse and record their music.

In the process, they will have the opportunity to explore such things as:

  • Stagecraft

  • Live sound engineering

  • Performance

  • Recording, Studio Skills and Music Production

  • Composition

  • Music Theory

  • Event Organization and Music Business.

Since 2018 we have worked with over thirty young people creating seven different acts. All of these acts took part in performances at such places as:

  • King’s Lynn Festival Too

  • The Harlequin Fayre

  • Young Norfolk Arts Festival.

Some of the acts have recorded their own original music. One of them has produced a nine-song concept album which has had featured tracks played on several local radio stations.

Many of the young people in Play Up have contributed to various other projects such as youth voice consultations and the Youth Music funded consultation Beating a Path, which led to an interview for them on BBC Radio Norfolk.
